Xander carried Dawn through the halls. She still hadn't woken and he had been protecting her since the battle with the army. Slayers moved out of his way as he went down towards the labs. Pushing open the doors, Xander set Dawn down on one of the tables. He felt she was much safer here than anywhere else and he wasn't going to lose her.
"Dawnie, please wake up." He whispered, taking hold of her hand. Dawn was another he considered a sister, and he was the only Summers left. Joyce was gone and now Buffy. Dawn was pretty much alone now, she had no blood family left. Willow and I will be there. I'll be the best big brother I can be. Xander thought to himself.

Dawn's eyes flickered, as she opened them ever so slightly the light hurt. She closed them again quickly, holding them tight as white dots danced around the darkness. She could feel a grip on hand. Her face was screwed up ever so slightly as she turned her head towards the person holding her hand. "Xander?" She questioned, her voice weak.
Her head moved, her eyes till squinted as she did so. The light was too harsh. It normally is when you first wake up but Dawn had no idea how long she'd been asleep. She wouldn't believe it if she did. She didn't know what had happened while she slept! She didn't know what she'd lost.

Hearing her speak made Xander sit up more, still holding onto her hand. "Dawn. Your awake." Xander breathed in relief. He didn't want to lose her as well! He wasn't going to tell her about Buffy yet considering the news might make her go unconscious again and thats not what he wanted. "How do you feel?" He asked, looking at her.
Seeing her squint, he stood and turned the lights down so they wouldn't be too harsh on her. Sitting back down, he kept his grip on her hand for comfort, making sure he was dreaming her waking up.

Dawn smiled slightly as he spoke. He'd said she was awake, the voice unforgetable. "Yes I'm awake!" She said her voice sounded scracthy and dry and still ever so weak in sound. He'd gotten up and turned down the lights which was a sigh of relief for her in all honestly. As he returned to her Dawn squeezed on his hand.
It was then that she went to answer his question of how she felt. Her eyes were now able to focus on him. "I feel.... wierd! I don't know like, empty..... I don't know i probably just sound stupid." It was now that she noticed the room around them. "Where are we?" She asked, confusion starting to take hold. Why was she laid here with Xander holding her hand? What the hell was going on?

"You've been unconscious for a long time now. I'm just glad your okay." Well okay as in awake, but Xander wasn't going to fix his words. Instead, he just smiled softly. "You don't sounds stupid." He added. That was to be expected, plus there was something that would upset her more which he would have to say. Sooner rather than later. But first he needed to answer her question.
"We are in the labs in the Slayer Head Quarters. Dawn, you missed so much, I don't know how to tell you this." Xander had no choice. If he didn't say anything, Dawn might hate him for not speaking sooner. Even though the news would be bad, he didn't want Dawn to push him away. "There was a battle. The army against us. The army's general held Buffy, kept her inside while the building collapsed. Buffy is gone." His voice broke and he closed his eyes. The pain was still fresh.

Dawnie frowned at Xander, waiting for him to speak but when he came out with it.....
Dawnie sat up ever so slightly moving at a steady pace. "Gone? What do you mean...." The hint of laughter was about to fill her lips when she saw his face. He.... wasn't kidding. "No!" She said starting to cry, her grip on Xander's hand losening. "No she can't......... no..... no.....!" The tears streamed her face as she moved her hands up shakily, cupping her nose and mouth. She head shook lightly as she closed her eyes. There were sharp impliments all over the room but as Dawn moved her knee's up, placing her head apon them.... they all started to move. Everything small and light wieght lifted gently from where it was rested and up towards the cieling. Everything seemed to gather there as Dawn cried. Moving in circles clockwise above her head. But yet Dawn was oblivious to what was going on around her. She couldn't be.... Buffy was... dead?

It was hard, and seeing Dawn like this, made Xander wish he could take her pain away. Placing his arms around Dawn, he held her while she cried, and he allowed tears to fall from his eyes. He wouldn't leave Dawn just yet, not after she just found out about her sister. "Dawn. I'm not going to leave you." He promised her that, he would keep that promise. "You can keep crying here, or we can go upstairs. Willow will be glad to see your awake." Xander wanted to focus on the positives, it was easier to swallow if he thought positively. Even though it wouldn't last, while it was going, it felt nice instead of feeling the eternal, empty black pit in his stomach.
