Misery Valley wasnt as fun as she thought it would be. No. Not at all as fun as Ellie thought it would be. Sure there were the thrill of evading the Slayers and there was a surplus amount of naive young men to drink from. Over all, it was an easy life in this town. Much better than Atlanta and Seattle. Those places had suspecting humans and great law forces. At least here she wouldnt be suspected of murder.
But it just wasnt fun. The other vampires here were either too scared of the Slayers to revolt or there just werent any. Ellie perfered the first because that was easier to change. Just envok more fear of her into them and they'd listen to her easily. At least there were some demons, but they seemed on the good guy side or just too down right boring for her to associate with.
Misery Valley had spent much too much time in the light, Ellie thought as she paced the warehouse she was spending the day light in. She yawned. Normally she'd be sleeping now, but now was a time for plans, not naps. The vampire fell onto the make-shift bed and stapled her hands above her chest to think. Maybe her plan to come to the Valley was horrible, horrible idea. She'd had over 150 years on her belt and wasting a few days or weeks in this snore fest wasnt exactly her forte.
"Sigh...Why does this place had to be so dull," Ellie stood in one fluid motion and looked at the time: ten minutes to sunset. Then she'd be able to hit the streets, nab a human or two, then search for a bit of fun.

Jonathan had gone out early tonight. He wasn't entirely sure of Misery's layout yet, so he'd need to get a head start if he was going to start his usual city patrols, scouring rooftops and so on. He hadn't spotted anything bad happening yet, but then, there was still a little time before the sun had completely set; the sky bled out a dark orange as the sun softly sank past the horizon.
A few things had caught his attention however, various strategically placed 'dark places' and a couple of spots that could make good vampire hideouts. He didn't usually bother with them so much; he was no Slayer. Jonathan didn't rush in guns blazing with a strict 'search and destroy' policy, no. He had done before, but it'd left him with a bad taste in his mouth. These days he rarely acted unless he had a compelling reason to, like catching a demon red-handed. Though often the power of reputation alone was all the justification he needed.
He hovered over towards the warehouses. He was already dressed for his night time excursions, thin black clothing, long dark coat, night vision goggles, enough weaponry to get him through the evening... but he kept it all concealed for the moment. Wouldn't do for someone to see him wandering around dressed like a confused Special Forces agent.
He picked something up. He focused his aura reading and could make out a shape stretched out in one of the warehouses. Vampire. Female. Malicious intentions...
Well, he wouldn't have anything else to do for a good twenty minutes or so.
Sneaking round to the back of the warehouse he pried open a small window and silently vaulted inside before making his way towards the Vampire. He noticed her rise to her feet, quite elegantly, he thought, and stood still for a moment, fearing detection. Seemed safe. He carried on and quickly found himself in the same room as his target.
Now, Jonathan had had his fair share of run ins with Vampires and in his search for balance had even found the worst of them to be worth keeping alive, if for no other reason than pleasant conversation, so he wasn't the type to just burst in, shoot first and ask questions later. Okay, so that was a lie, but all the same he had no intention of shooting first in this encounter. A lone Vampire was always of intrigue as they tended to pack together where possible.
Besides, he'd already noticed that this Vampire was female. Which meant that she might be a cute female. Which was reason enough for a cordial start in Jonathan's books.
He smoothed out his hair with a hand and glided into the room. She had her back to him and Jonathan was notoriously good at avoiding detection though he felt he was being humoured. Or lured.
"Don't see many Vampires hanging out on their own these days. Jonathan remarked, keeping himself focused.
Just in case.

For a while Ellie stood there, staring straight ahead and into the still-light-out day. Oh how she loathed the daylight. But not as much as she disliked snooping humans. They always got in peoples ways. Her lips curled into a sneer as she heard a person, male probably; by the sound of him landing on the concrete floor. He seemed to only be snooping so she wouldnt press herself until it was sunset: when she could leave and take a fight, if it happened, outside.
As the man approached, Ellie twisted her neck a bit and walked to a desk, still being sure to face away from the guy. She'd heard all the legends about the slayers. Most were girls or women so this guy couldnt be one of the 'chosen ones'. Must be just another side kick that she heard about. Boring. Much too easy, Ellie thought before sighing and tossing her hair behind her shoulder. The vampire crossed her arms over her chest as she waited for the man to speak. Finally, his voice drawled out and he was stating the obvious.
Ellie stayed turned away from him, debating whether or not to go at him with her vampire face or to have a near-pleasant conversation with him. She chose the latter option and turned towards him, a smirk on her face. The sun was setting. This guy wasnt the smartest for nearing a vamp when she was getting ready. "My, my, how you have no manners! Is it me getting older or is knocking out of style now?" Ellie spoke with a slight irish accent. She rose and eyebrow and let her hands drop to her side, eyeing the man.
He seemed strong enough, and something about him screamed odd but she thought nothing of it as she approached. When she stopped, she was at least two yards and far enough away to react if he tried anything. "Well, you dont see many lone patrollers by themselves in the Valley either."

Hey, she is cute! If she's so keen on etiquette maybe I can make her bed... Jonathan sblack personed inwardly.Ooh, Irish a swell... Jonathan's conscious mind blurted. A voice from a darker place reminded him that he was part Irish, as betrayed by his name, and that this woman was also a bloodthirsty creature of the night. His conscious mind glared at the other voice. Just saying... it responded before retreating back into silence.
Unfortunately for this Vampire she wasn't so superior to Jonathan as she seemed to believe. He could tell from her expression that she didn't think too much of him. That was fine with Jonathan; appearing harmless was a good way to win people. It seemed to work especially well on women, probably because they were better judges of character and trusted their gut instinct more than more than men which meant that, although they were harder to fool, if you could pull it off they tended to believe it more easily.
I really need a catch phrase... Jonathan thought to himself. It was something he had considered previously but decided it didn't really work for him. I'm Jonathan Locke...BITCH! ... Hmph. Fine, that one could go on hold again.
"How'd you know I'm alone?" Jonathan asked with a smirk. "I could just be a scout with a hundred armed men and a tank waiting outside.
He wasn't, of course. But she had obviously realised that he wasn't a normal human otherwise she would have attacked already. The fact was, somehow Jonathan had detected her, knew she was a Vampire and still had the gull to approach her alone. These were three issues she would want to clarify; Vampires by nature thrived on mystery and control - Jonathan had proven an unknown and curious new factor and the fact that he had found her suggested that something was giving away her position.
Best keep the aura reading a secret for now... see how she reacts.
"I'm used to working alone. I've got my methods and none of them involve other people, who often have a habbit of disrupting my system. Jonathan told the Vampire.

She hadnt met many people in Misery Valley yet, people meaning ones she hasnt killed, so this was a semi-thrill to her. The guy seemed strong enough to hold is own during a fight and handsome enough to make the fight fun. Oh how she loved giving men a gruesome end, especially sexy men since they seemed to be missed more. Now that the sun had completely set and only darkness came in from the windows, Ellie was much more comfortable.
It seemed at the same time Ellie was looking over the guy, he was looking over her thinking what ever guy hunters thought when they approach a vampire. She didnt really care either way. By the end of the night he'd be dead and she'd be full. The idea brought a smile to her face. She has been waiting out for some good guy blood in her for a long time. She took a step towards the man, still staying a comfortable amount of space away as she circled around him, again looking over his bulky clothing. They seemed to be hiding weapons. Ellie seemed dumbstruck. How could I be so stupid, she scolded herself. Her hand was brought up to the bridge of her nose as she thought for a moment. Maybe he would be more of a challenge instead of and easy meal.
When he spoke, she just had to roll her eyes. "Hey, now, I'm now stupid. I know you came alone. 'Sides, unless those armed men had stakes, I dont think they'd do any harm. And about the tank, how dumb can you be?"
The blonde quickly got over her failure to misdetect the man and quickly looked back up at him. "You have your methods of working alone, so do I. Vampire can be pretty stupid when you try and give them orders." Ellie took another few steps towards the man and grinned, figuring something out."Now, what brings a little boy like yourself down to this particular warehouse?"

Jonathan shrugged, keeping half an eye on the Vampire as she sized him up.
Probably wondering if I'd go better with chips or gravy... Jonathan decided. A snappy focus on her aura confirmed a growing malicious intent, but also a growing curiosity. Jonathan dared not look closer, not that he'd get much he was sure, for fear of losing track of her. Oh well, if I get in a tussle with anyone tonight it might as well be a cute chick...
This was getting interesting. There was something very captivating about this particular creature - she exuberated self-confidence, beyond that of a normal Vampire. She obviously inherited the innate Vampire talents for devious and Machiavellian behaviour but they complimented her overall personality so beautifully that it was hard to begrudge her for it. Jonathan had taken to calling these types natural Vampires... those who were so wonderfully suited to the condition that it was impossible to imagine then being any other way. They tended to be few and far between.
She moved closer again and Jonathan allowed his head to lean slightly to one side in a gesture of vague interest. But in the same kind of way a rabbit might be vaguely interested in the two large lights heading towards it.
On the other hand, no car has ever tried to run over a rabbit with a rocket launcher... Jonathan reassured himself with a small smile. Not that he had one with him or anything - he found it hard to fit them into his coat pocket.
"Me? Oh, well, I was... uh... looking for a homeless person to rob." Jonathan explained with exaggerated hand movements. Using humour to avoid questions was a well practised talent he had. Not that everyone was into his kind of humour, but it tended to throw people off either way.
"Maybe it was fate that brought us together?" He said in a slightly more serious tone, but with a playful smile. "And since we're bonding so well, please, call me Jonathan." He added, holding the smile.

As this man's head cocked to the side, she brought her hand up to her chin to think. Throughout the day she had been craving something to eat, and here was a perfect speciman. He seemed healthy, he was young, and he seemed to align with the good guys. But there was this twinge of doubt that made her stay back. She'd hard about gifted people and demons and their powers. How else could this man know to look in this particular place fo a vampire? Ellie pushed passed it as he said something.
Playing stupid, huh? Ellie thought as he mentioned robbing a homeless person. She blinked and gave him a look that screamed idiot. However she did find it funny that he looked like he believed that she'd fall for it. The girl flicked a piece of stray hair behind her ear and sighed. "I would have thought a homeless person had no cash, wouldnt you?"
Without witing for an answer, Ellie took a few steps towards him again. She didnt hide her unmistakable curiosity in him. She still wanted to kno whether or not he was one of the 'gifted' she'd heard so much about or just demons who defied their right to be on the bad guy side. Soon, though, he was answering her question of why he was there. As soon as h finished speaking, her face contorted into a frown. Wrong answer.
"Fate, huh? The power of which is fate brought you here? Oh, I guess I was mistaken." Ellie shrugged and idly crossed her arms over her chest. "You know, I hate when people lie. And right now, it's not too hard to tell you're lying. What did you see when you looked towards this place? Hear, maybe? Or was it smell that got you here? 'Cause it sure as hell wasnt fate?"
Ellie's frown turned upside down as she stuck out her hand. "On a happier note, I'm Ellie."

Jonathan shook Ellie's hand with a firm, manly grip that he didn't deny to anyone. He hated guys with a weak handshake.
"Ah, a girl called Ellie called broke my heart once." Jonathan replied, dreamily.
This one will probably rip it out of your chest and eat it in front of you! chirped a helpful voice inside of Jonathan's head.
He straightened up and similarly folded his arms as Ellie got closer to him. She obviously wasn't going to let this one go. He could sense a hunger in her, the Vampiric lust to destroy something decent and good...
Hey, wait a second! Jonathan thought to himself, Since when have I fallen into that category? I help whoever the hell I feel like helping, human or otherwise. Which was true, it was just that humans inevitably needed helping a lot more than anything else did.
His face slowly broke into a slightly sinister smile.
"Okay, you got me." Jonathan said, holding up his hands. "I'm Demon-raised. Got picked up by one when I was a little kid who brought me up and trained me in a kind of demonic martial art. Part of the package is being able to sense people." He explained.
"We split on bad terms." Jonathan added, a dark undertone creeping in.

After years of meeting and greetings, Ellie had learned to take a firm hand shake without flinching. But as soon as the grip was dropped she inconspicuously flexed her fingers. As she did this, he seemed to babble on about how someone broke his heart. Her eyes went over him again and a smirk came to her face. Oh, I wonder why, she decided better about saying it out loud, it could cause Jonathan to go into an even more elaborate history.
A silence came over the two. It's surprising how she hasnt attacked him, or vice versa. Normally, there isnt so much talking involved. This could be contributated to the fact that she still didnt know how she was down there, that is...until he told her in another long drawn out explanation. An odd smile crept onto his face and he started to talk. Ellie's head turned to the head slightly as she listened.
"Demon raised, eh?" Ellie shrugged. She didnt care about being raised by demons, that boring. But the power he had, of sensing where people are, was what she cared about. Ellie took another sort of skip-step towards him and tapped her chin. One thing caught her, she wasnt a person. People had souls, she had none. Her mouth opened to ask a question, but he said something about splitting. "You and the demon or you and the Ellie chick?"

What, she didn't believe that a heavily armed man who broke into a warehouse because there was a Vampire inside was the advanced scout for a larger group but she actually bought the 'a girl called blah-blah broke my heart once' line? Geeze, I must use that line ten times a night sometimes... Jonathan's mind boggled.
Well... Ellie was undoubted very intelligent. Hell, Jonathan could practically hear her mind whirring away as she studied him more closely. She was probably a master manipulator and seducer, in the sense that she could make men believe they were going to get lucky. But there was a difference between seduction and flirting, which had changed considerably in the last hundred years or so, so it wasn't that unexpected that she wouldn't know a pick-up when she heard one.
"The demon." Jonathan stated. He had to admit, he kind of liked Ellie. Sure, she was so obviously evil incarnate but... well, she was a challenge and sort of... fun. Jonathan didn't meet many people who could keep up with him. But all the same... she was starting to press a very dark, tightly locked door in the corridors of his past and he wasn't sure he was going to let her go there just yet.
The image of a mass grave... and a thousand tiny skeletons...
"Let's just say we had different ideas about how I was going to use the things he taught me." Jonathan said, wanting to change the subject.
"You were going to say something?" He suggested, remembering that she had seemed to go to say something and then changed her mind.
