Nathaniel watched as the ship was unloaded, the crew busily going about their work, hardly noticing the presence of one old man. He glanced down at his pocket watch for a second, considering recent events. A member of Vellweb now, no thanks to the useless wet blanket that had tried to intimidate him. He had a purpose here in Misery, it was time to make sure everyone knew he could be useful to them.
"Psst. You the guy?" a cautious whisper asked suddenly from his right. He swore, he hated being surprised, that was the sort of thing that got people killed. He turned, a dock worker was standing next to several large crates, out of site of his coworkers.
"That depends I suppose." he replied, they made eye contact and it was clear that they were here for the same reason.
"I got it right here, damn hard to smuggle over here too." the man said, pulling out a large cloth wrapped object. Heavy and rectangular, that looked promising.
"Show me."
The cloth was pulled off and what was revealed was a thick, worn leather bound book. Nathaniel cocked an eyebrow and leaned in for closer inspection.
"The Ramanhet Grimoire, seriously dangerous stuff here."
"Well, Ramanhet wasn't one of Egypt's most notorious sorcerer priests for nothing." he replied with slight exasperation. He reached out to take hold of the tome but it was quickly pulled away.
"Ah ah, you got the money?" Nathanial reached back and dropped the backpack at the man's feet.
"It's all there." satisfied, the man finally handed him the text. Nathaniel could sense the heaviness of the black arts contained within its pages the moment he made contact with it. If he was going to be useful to Vellweb, this was certainly going to help.
