Nathaniel sat in the middle of the dusty carpet, candles sputtered around him as he completed the ritual chant and opened his eyes. A chill wind blew in from nowhere, the walls were thin and drafty but this was mystical.
"I am not some simpering fool to be summoned at your amusement, Vonner!" the harsh voice sounded as the breeze turned into a gale, blowing out the candles and casting the motel room into complete darkness. It remained that way for a moment and he sat calmly in the dark amid the howling winds and the wailing spirit taking form. The candles re-lit then and before him hovered a mass of darkness so deep black that it seemed to draw the light into it. It roiled and formed, finally gathering into a flowing humanoid shape. There was no light in the mass, no constrast. "Why do you continue to call me forth?"
"Because you can't stop me, Darius. You owe me and I'm going to keep on collecting."
"For all your self realization and reformation you're still calling on a dealer of black arts to hold your hand, in fact now you're digging us up from beyond the grave!" the resonating voice of the warlock Darius' spirit rebuked. Nathaniel understood the spirit's rage, he held him in chains even in death.
"Say what you will, but I need some of your knowledge right now."
"What is it this time, Vonner?" the helplessness was once again evident in the spirit's tone. Nathaniel smiled a little bit despite his distaste for what he was doing.
"I ran into a witch today, she gave me a calling card with the name 'Vellweb' on it, ring any bells?"
